Examine. Contemplate. Discuss
On May 7th, 2005, Subject Matter celebrated the grand reopening of their new 2700 feet location at The LAB in Costa Mesa. Subject Matter is a meshing of an art gallery and clothing store that creates a unique and inspiring environment of visual expression for local artists and shoppers alike. Everything from monthly art exhibitions, a vast book selection, and a boutique offering male and female clothing and accessories are all under one roof at Subject Matter. The evening started with a street art opening "know False Paintings" and finished with a fashion show.
ART EXHIBIT
The "know False Paintings" exhibit included original art work
by KRUSH 1, RICH uno, and The
Witness. These three Southern California artists share deep
roots in graffiti and have designed for brands such as Creative Recreation,
Eye Witness Brand, The Seventh Letter, Scion, kr3w, & MGM. Their
work can be found on walls and billboards across the world. The "know
false paintings" exhibit is a collection of oddities, legendary
letter forms, zoological, and robotic creatures; simply put - a chunk
of funk.
FASHION SHOW
The Lab rocked with cheering from onlookers at the outdoor fashion show.
Clothing was provided by Nikita, Nisa, Jedidiah, Ezekiel, Commonwealth
Stacks, Mountains, Rivers and Peacocks, Gauge and INKD. Creo, Elm Co.,
Dragon, Creative Recreation and Cobian also
participated in the show but are not carried at Subject Matter.
